Oakville Council Chamber, Oakville, ON
The challenge of this project was to create a Council Chamber for the Town of Oakville within the existing courtroom space. In other words, the space must do double duty without compromising the dignity of each group. The Town Council was given a curve in which Oakville’s business could be conducted. This curve is found in the shape of the council benches and in the ceiling plain which holds council lighting. The Courtroom, however, maintained its rectilinear organization. Improvements were made to the audio/visual equipment for both usages of the room. Ng Chee Architects provided full architectural services inclusive of coordinating specialist consultants input and designing millwork details.
