Thorntonview, Oshawa, Ontario
This long term care facility is located on Thornton Road South in Oshawa. It was previously the Versa Care facility with 100 beds. The 1998 allocation of 50 new long term care beds to this facility had prompted the construction of a 2-storey addition adjacent to the existing structure. It has been renamed Thorntonview. The new wing is connected to the existing lobby and entrance area by an activity corridor. A new courtyard is created between the existing and new buildings providing a secure outdoor space to be shared by all residents of this home.
Each storey of the new wing contains one resident home area (RHA). Within the RHA is the full complement of resident bedrooms, dining rooms, home kitchen area, activation rooms, bathing units and nursing centre. The existing main kitchen and laundry areas, in the original building, are renovated to accommodate the additional services provided.
